Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Great recipe for ripe blueberries — This is a great recipe for blueberries that are a bit overly ripe and starting to go a bit squishy. They are getting blended anyway, so it doesn’t matter if they are soft!
  • Sweet & Tangy — The blueberry and balsamic flavor combination gives this dressing a nice balance between sweet and tangy.
  • Versatile — This blueberry dressing works with a variety of salad recipes and there are lots of suggestions below on how to build a delicious salad around this dressing recipe.

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make the blueberry dressing.
  • Blueberries: Use fresh blueberries for the best flavor. If it is not blueberry season, you can use thawed blueberries, but it won’t taste quite as fresh.
  • Avocado Oil: I like to use avocado oil for this recipe, but you can use any type of neutral oil such as sunflower oil or vegetable oil. You can also use olive oil, but it will add a bit of a stronger flavor.
  • Balsamic Vinegar: Use a high quality balsamic vinegar that you enjoy the taste of. You can use a white wine vinegar instead.
  • Maple Syrup: Maple syrup adds a dash of sweetness to balance out the tart vinegar. You can replace the maple syrup with honey.

How To Make Blueberry Balsamic Vinaigrette

Step 1: Add the blueberries, avocado oil, balsamic vinegar and maple syrup to a food processor.

Step 2: Blend for about 30 to 40 seconds until smooth.

Serving Suggestions

This Blueberry Balsamic Vinaigrette is a great salad dressing recipe for any green summer salad.

One of my favorite salads to use with this dressing is this Blueberry Goat Cheese Salad which is made with fresh blueberries, crumbled goat cheese, toasted walnuts and spinach.

A salad made with spring mix, shredded carrots, feta, red onion, cucumbers, sunflower seeds and blueberry balsamic vinaigrette.

But there are a lot of other ingredients you can use to build your own salad to pair with this recipe. Here are some salad ingredient suggestions:

  • spinach, arugula, spring mix or kale
  • blueberries, raspberries, blackberries or strawberries
  • watermelon, honeydew melon or cantaloupe
  • dried cranberries
  • apple or peach slices
  • cucumbers
  • shredded carrots
  • goat cheese, feta cheese or parmesan
  • sunflower seeds
  • toasted walnuts, almonds or pecans

Expert Tips

  • Store in the fridge. Store blueberry balsamic dressing in an airtight container for up to 7 days. The dressing can slightly separate when stored in the fridge. Shake or mix well before pouring over your salad.
  • Leave it chunky. If you would like a slightly chunkier dressing, you can skip the step of straining the dressing. It will still taste just as good and will be faster to prepare.
  • Use up other berries. If you have other fresh berries to use up (such as strawberries, raspberries or blackberries), you can use them to replace some of the blueberries for a mixed berry balsamic vinaigrette.

Recipe FAQs

Can I freeze this dressing?

No. I don’t recommend freezing vinaigrette dressings as it will significantly alter the taste and texture of the dressing.

How can I make this dressing thinner?

If you find your dressing is too thick, mix in some water, one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
